MBHS ’95 Set Celebrates 30 Years of Brotherhood in Grand Style

The Methodist Boys’ High School Class of 1995 marked a monumental milestone on Saturday 22nd of November 2025, as classmates from around the globe gathered for their 30th anniversary reunion — a celebration of enduring friendship, shared history, and the unbreakable bonds forged three decades ago.

A Gathering of Eagles

The event, held at 43 Kakawa Street, Lagos, witnessed an impressive turnout of approximately 40 gentlemen, with many more joining virtually via a live YouTube stream. The atmosphere was electric as old schoolmates, many reuniting for the first time since graduation, embraced with the enthusiasm of the boys they once were, now with the wisdom and achievements of men.

A Visual Tribute to Brotherhood

The hall was transformed into a nostalgic sanctuary by the artistic talents of our very own Olaniyi Ajayi-Bembe, whose elegant decorations set the perfect tone for the celebration. The centerpiece was a magnificent backdrop banner featuring the names of every member of the ’95 Set — a touching tribute that had alumni excitedly pointing to their names and capturing memories against this personalized memorial. The deceased members were specially highlighted, creating a poignant reminder of those who remain forever in our hearts.

Dressed in Unity and Tradition

The event was brightened by custom polo shirts worn by many attendees, while others honored tradition by wearing white attire complemented by the school’s iconic “idasa” headgear. The visual harmony created a powerful statement of unity across time and distance.

Celebrating with Music and Memories

The celebration was energized by a dynamic DJ whose playlist spanned decades, mixing nostalgic tunes from our school days with contemporary hits. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Akeem Adeleke – a.k.a. Baba Obalende – an esteemed alumnus who coincidentally owns the event center — a testament to the far-reaching success of MBHS graduates.

Feasting and Fellowship

No celebration is complete without sustenance, and this event exceeded all expectations. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of our diaspora members, the catering, provided by an exceptional vendor — Fatmac Catering Services – was both abundant and exquisite. The anniversary cake was a masterpiece in both design and taste, with many taking home slices to extend the celebration. The gesture of providing takeaway meals was particularly appreciated, ensuring the fellowship continued beyond the event walls.

Honoring Excellence and Service

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of certificates of participation to all who contributed to the event’s success. History was made with the inaugural induction of three distinguished members into the MBHS Alumni Hall of Fame:

  • Bayo Ogungbenro
  • Sola Souza
  • Kunle Sadare

These gentlemen were recognized for their outstanding, sustained contributions to the alumni community over many years.

Remembering the Departed

In a solemn moment that balanced the day’s celebrations, the gathering observed a minute of silence and paid tribute to departed classmates from the 1995 set—a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment together.

A New Chapter Begins

The event also marked a historic transition in leadership. After virtual nominations and voting earlier in the week, the newly elected executive officers of the alumni association were formally presented, taking the baton from the previous committee that had served diligently since 2015. This peaceful transfer of leadership symbolizes a fresh start and renewed commitment to the association’s future.

Capturing the Moments

Throughout the event, the excitement was palpable as photographs were snapped and instantly shared to the group WhatsApp platform, allowing even those who couldn’t attend in person to participate in the merriment. Gratitude to the Architects of Success

This memorable celebration was masterfully orchestrated by the dedicated planning committee:

  • Kunle Sadare (Chairman)
  • Kunle Ade-Onojobi (Secretary)
  • Remi Makanju
  • Yinusa Kamal
  • Tunde Akinfala
  • Saheed Oseni

Their meticulous planning, creativity, and tireless effort over several months resulted in an event that will be remembered for years to come.

Looking Forward

As the last notes of music faded and final goodbyes were exchanged, one sentiment echoed throughout the gathering: “Let’s not wait another 30 years.” The 30th anniversary reunion of the MBHS ’95 Set not only celebrated where we’ve been but reignited the connections that will carry us forward.

The spirit of MBHS — “Non Sibi Sed Allis” – espoused in excellence, integrity, and brotherhood was alive and thriving in that room, promising many more reunions to come.
